‘Invitation’. An imaginative children’s book

If you are a dreamer, come in, If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer... If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire For we have some flax-golden tales to spin. Come in! Come in!
By Shel Silverstein.
Lakshmipat Singhania Academy and Lakshmipat Singhania Academy International schools reopened after the summer break borrowing the above lines of inspiration from the popular poem, ‘Invitation’. An imaginative children’s book writer and illustrator, Silverstein wanted to tell the young minds that everyone is endowed with imagination, and all can spin their ‘golden tales’.
Books, at a very early age have enabled children to spread the wings of their mind and hence, after the long summer break, the first day at school was celebrated with paints, brushes and books beyond the syllabus. The young learners read books like Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Giving Tree and were encouraged to think of themselves as a writer and illustrator. Book markers were made with coloured papers, sticks and hands became dirty, while the minds remained fresh. Each student chose their favourite book and recreated the cover and a book mark to go along with it.
As an educational institution, Lakshmipat Singhania Academy and its International segment believe that achieving higher grades are not the only means of measuring success. True learning happens in an environment which promotes learning and reading, crafting and creating, singing and dancing.

When we started school after the Summer Vacation, I was sad as the classes were online again. But this art session changed my mood as I could work together with my friends even during online mode and each of us truly felt like an author who can also illustrate.

We read the book, ‘The House for Hermit Crab’ and made a book cover and a book marker. I enjoyed the fun activity. The best was making the sea creatures for the cover.

It was a collaboration between me and my friend where we made a book marker and a book cover. Reading was the focus of this activity. I believe, reading is a very good habit, and we should also read books beyond our syllabus.
